Betty Saybe, MS, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My journey to become a marriage and family therapist was uncharted territory. Initially, I attended NYU as a film student, but after 2.5 years, being the only Hispanic female in the department left me feeling out of place. I returned to school later in life to earn my bachelor’s degree in psychology.

While contemplating what to do with my degree, I began seeing a therapist to process my divorce. I was quickly learning the patterns in my behavior and how to change course. It was my therapist who encouraged me to pursue a career in the field as she expressed my warm glow and intuitive nature would be well suited for helping others.

I have spent most of my career working with the family system as children are reunified in the home after being removed due to abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and substance use by one or both of the parents. We collaboratively work on changing the family dynamic through teaching communication skills, setting boundaries, improving decision-making, rewriting negative core beliefs, and building emotional regulation skills. Additionally, I have work with children who exhibited problem sexual behaviors.

Now my focus is expanding to working with individuals and couples because this allows for more intimate work with people as their growth can change the trajectory of the family dynamic. Additionally, I can work with people when they have aged out of the family system or are not involved in DCF, changing the point of entry into services.

In my spare time, I am a rocker chick who is a blossoming photographer.

                              Warm regards,
                                         Betty
